Last weekend was the weekend for Australian Tekken: the OzHadou Nationals. This is the be-all-end-all event for the players seeking the title of “Australia’s best”, and this it was also the chance to take the title as the first for Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
The event was run over two days, with four pools being played on Saturday followed by the top 8 on Sunday. The results for the pools can be found by clicking here. In addition, the matches are currently being uploaded to Lordsilver’s YouTube account: http://www.youtube.com/user/l0rds1lv3r.
After the pools, much socialising and drinking took place between players from all over Australia, and even a player from Hawaii (special shoutout to Rick aka Crimzon for being an amazing guest!). This naturally led to a Sunday morning of hangovers and large breakfasts, but for a few players the only meal on their mind was first place. The final few matches of the top 8 can be found on the OHNX stream archive. While the stream archive contains fantastic commentary by saiyuk and Colonov, higher quality versions of the top 8 will soon be online.
Date: Sunday 23rd of October 2011. Time: Sign-ups ５:00 – ５:30 pm, tournament starts at ６:00 pm. Venue: 614 George St Galaxy World, Town Hall. Format: 1vs1 Double Elimination. Sign up cost: $5.

<> We will be using the 2 best machines at Galaxy at the time.
<> Double elimination (you get TWO lives).
<> Matches will consist of ONE GAME until the GRAND FINAL, then BEST OF 3.
<> Random stage select.
<> If both players decide to use the same side, a coin toss will be played.
<> We will be using the life settings as they currently are (110%).
<> Seeding will be sorted on the day.
<> Prize money will be split AMONG TOP 3 PLACERS 60:30:10.

It happened. Our beloved sanctum was finally triumphed by those blasted paper-game players. However, it was never in our spirit to leave with anything less than vengeance. That we got, as we drank, smoked, and of course played Tekken like we have never played Tekken before. It was: Sayonara GGS – The Tournament.

This is our last tournament ever at Good Games Sydney as the machines are being removed only days after the tournament. What does this mean? It means BE THERE!!

Although it was last month, I finally went through the plethora of videos that Lordsilver uploaded and found the top three matches. This includes Winners Final, Losers Final and Grand Final. Enjoy!
Anyone following the fighting game scene not only in Australia, but the world, would have known this weekend was Shadowloo Showdown weekend. While it was only the second year running for the Melbourne event, it was huge. All weekend there was a live stream with commentators, a packed house and a ton of international guests. Although primarily a “Capcom” event, there were still a few international guests who are very prominent in the Tekken scene, including MarkMan (USA), Tokido (Japan) and GamerBee (Taiwan).
While I personally did not make it down, a few of the Sydney players did happen to be in Melbourne over the weekend and, naturally, participated in the Tekken 6 tournament. In first place was Mad Catz’s TTC.Tokido, with TTC.GamerBee securing second place after managing to defeat Sydney’s very own St. George (Cheyne) who took the bronze!
Fantastic effort by Cheyne, congratulations! Sydney represent!
